Age Spots

Age spots-Solar spots or solar lentigos, are brown spots on your skins which are about an inch in diameter and are caused due to years of exposure to the sun.

Age spots mostly show themselves on the face, back of your hands or chest. These are the areas of the skin that is most exposed to the sun through out your lifetime.

The easiest and the best way to prevent age spots from appearing on you would be to avoid sun exposure. Sunbathing is out of the question as it will make things only worse and use sunscreen regularly, preferably SPF 15 or higher. However this will not help you to get rid of the age spots that you already have. It will only prevent more age spots from appearing.

If you are keen on reducing or fading the already appeared age spots, you should go see your doctor or a dermatologist. Your doctor can recommend a prescription or over the counter skin cream which contains retinoic or alpha-hydroxy acid.

If you do follow these recommendation and use creams containing these chemicals it is a must that you use sunscreen every time you step out of the house because these creams are known to increase the sensitivity of the skin to the exposure of the sun.

Laser treatment is another alternative to rid yourself of age spots. Though the method of treatment is expensive, it does offer immediate results.
